Nature’s
Bakery Cooperative is a vegetarian bakery commited to
using organic whole grains. We have been a worker’s collective
since its founding in 1970. Currently, we operate with eight full-time
members. All members participate in the baking process, specialize
in an area of management, and hold a seat on our board of directors.
Nature’s Bakery Cooperative traditionally supports organic farming, natural food warehouses, nutritional
research, political activism, food co-ops, consumer co-ops, housing
co-ops, and worker or family owned businesses. These groups work for
positive changes in how foods are grown and distributed.
We are committed to educating ourselves and
our customers about nutrition, cooperative work, and the politics
of growing and distributing food. Nature’s Bakery
Cooperative is part of the Cooperative Whole
Grain Educational Association, a nationwide organization
of worker-managed bakeries. In 1983, the Cooperative Whole
Grain Educational Association published Uprisings, The
Whole Grain Bakers’ Book. Since then, the book has enjoyed
three printings, and is still in print today.
